On the Road with Aluka: Off to the eLearning Africa 2008 Conference, Accra, Ghana
April 21st, 2008 by Michael Gallagher, User SupportAluka will be traveling to the eLearning Africa 2008 Conference to be held in Accra, Ghana, from 28th to 30th May 2008, in a variety of capacities as presenter, demonstrator, speaker and attendee.
Dr. Siro Masinde, Aluka’s Africa Regional Coordinator, will be speaking on the importance of the Aluka digital library for the growth of research and scholarship in Africa. You can read more about his thoughts on the transformative effects of digital libraries in an article written about Aluka and Dr. Masinde available at http://www.elearning-africa.com/newsportal/english/news106.php
Aluka will also be highlighted in the African eLearning Tools and Services Village at the Conference, where participants will see a variety of tools and services that have been developed especially for African researchers, scholars and students. Michael Gallagher of Aluka User Services will be demonstrating some of the powerful teaching, learning and research tools in Aluka and will discuss ways these can be used in the classroom.
Aluka will also have a booth where all attendees can see Aluka in action as well as talk about some of the ways that Aluka can be used in the classroom. Since Aluka provides such a range of materials, including video, text, models, maps, specimens, slides and more, this opportunity to discuss teaching methods for incorporating these materials into the classroom is invaluable. Dr. Masinde, Michael Gallagher, and Rahim Rajan, Aluka’s Collection Development Manager, will all be on hand to answer any questions about the digital library.
Aluka greatly looks forward to meeting some of the eLearning professionals, practitioners, and community at the conference; building a network of research and scholars about Africa is what we hope to do!
We look forward to seeing you in Accra!
